With a few hours to spare Davy Flynn, my son Conor & myself decided to take a quick one day session down to the Lough in Cork in search of a specimen sized Carp. I contacted local carp expert Sid Kennedy to pick his brain, Sid was most helpful and put us on a location where he had seen some big fish moving. Sid also supplied us with a selection of Sticky bait’s boilies. So we set up our gear and sat back for a cuppa, as frequently happens when fishing with the tea poured and the moment being savoured a bite alarm screams and line rips off the bait runner. Conor quickly had the carp under control after a great battle the fish was quickly measured weighed and photographed. The fish weighed exactly 15lb and adds another specimen to Conor’s ever growing list of specimen fish.
With the tea now gone cold and a very happy young angler it was time to re cast the rod again.
After a short while Conor’s rod got another run and he landed a fish of 8 ½ Lbs. it was a good day for some .
We experienced a bit of a lull in the afternoon, but as evening approached Davy observed a few fish tucked in very tight to a snag in the Lough. He cast his bait very tight to the snag and hoped to make contact with one of the fish Within 10 minutes a Carp was hooked and Davy was playing the fish towards the net. This one set the needle at 14Lb 8 oz and was a new Pb for him.
A great short trip and all possible from a wee bit of local expert knowledge and some of Sid’s Boilies Once again thanks Sid Kennedy for all your help.
We are already looking forward to our next session on the Lough and maybe a chance of meeting a twenty !!!!
