When fishing at the Lough please note that there are bins provided for disinfecting your nets, slings and mats.
Back in 2009/10, Cork Lough suffered a Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) health scare, which luckily proved to be negative. In reaction to this, Cork Carp Anglers, Cork City Council, Marine Institute and Inland Fisheries Ireland agreed that for future protection against fish disease and its spread, disinfectant bins would be provided at convienient locations around the lake. This made Cork Lough the first public fishery in Ireland to have its own fish biosecurity measures installed.
There are four disinfectant bins in total. The combination lock code for all bins is the same; 7373.
Cork Carp Anglers and Cork City Council urge all anglers fishing the Lough to use these bins before and after their session if they intend to fish other waters.
Check out the video on using these bins in the Videos folder at the top of the page under “carp care 2”
